It's not a play and there's no music and it's not his band to get back together.

I think Henry Rollins seriously needs to shut the fuck up. I do.
A recent post on Spin Magazine's web site is devoted to "a performance" by Rollins, Janeane Garofolo and Marc Maron called "It's Not a Play and There's No Music."
Which I guess means it's a glorified stand-up routine.

"We kept the show out of the comedy club world so none of us would have the obligation to be funny -- although, I think that will occur anyway."

Henry! You've done this before! Remember, it was called a "spoken word" performance? Spoken word. I wish they would have been "thought word" performances so dumbasses all over the country could have paid $20 apiece to see Rollins' hulking, stupid ass stand on stage and think.

Anyway. That's not what this is about. Whoever wrote the article about the "punk icon" (seriously) added this sentence at the end:

Talk: Will Rollins ever reunite Black Flag?

Snob Parade thrashes about madly, knocking things over and farting curse words

Ahem. Excuse me.

DUMBASS SPIN WRITERS!

That's like asking if Pete Rose is ever going to get the Reds back together. Well maybe not quite. But Rollins - who was Black Flag's like third or fourth singer - himself said more than once, in rare instances of not being a bloated and self-satisfied idiot, that Black Flag was Greg Ginn's band to do what he wanted with.
It also ignores the 2003 reunion shows Black Flag played. With Dez Cadena on vocals.

What the hell do you have against Henry Rollins? There really is no end to your snobbery.

I am one of those "dumbasses" that shelled out "$20" to see this hulking mass onstage yelling his incoherent observations at a packed house.

He's humble, insightful, and has a million stories about underground music that don't involve any self-congradulations.

At this spoken word event I "stupidly" paid "$20" to witness, Henry took a break from flexing his biceps to tell a story about how much he hates giving stupid interviews. I wouldn't base my opinion of Rollins on a blurb in a shitty magazine.

Pick on someone who deserves it, like Mark Maron or Janeane Garofolo. Those two should co-host a show on the "Who Gives a Shit Channel."

Eh, maybe I was a little hard on Henry. I like Black Flag just fine, musically although I feel like Dez and Keith were the better singers. I guess I thought the Rollins Band stuff was pretty bad though.
I just hate having to see him on VH1 all the time, offering his zany "punk rock take" on pop culture. And every time I've seen him doing a "spoken word" performance he doesn't really seem to have anything to say, other than funny stories. I guess I think going on a national "speaking" tour without much to say other than is kind of self-congradulatory. Unless you just want to call it stand-up comedy.

Why are you watching VH1? VH1 devotes hours of programming to giving pop culture a blowjob. It provides nothing but stupid shit and you know you'll hate everyone and everything you see on there.

No one likes Rollins' stint in Black Flag. Rollins doesn't even like it.

So should Henry Rollins just slink back into a dark hole and do nothing? Is that what musicians should do? Should Dr. Frank or Ben Weasel just shut the fuck up and let their music catalog speak for itself? How dare they venture into another field and try to make money.

Would it bother you if Ben Weasel went around to clubs telling stories from his travels and experiences? I guarantee you would be first in line.

It's called "spoken-word" because that is exactly what it is. Rollins tells stories, that according to you are not very interesting (I'm sure you've heard a bunch of them and have enough research for an informed opinion) but might be serious, might be funny, or a combination of the two. What should he call it? "Large Man Talking."

He's written a bunch of books, traveled all around the world, and was involved in a hugely important period of underground music. So he has a lot of good stories. One book I have he writes a cool story about hanging out with Black Sabbath, and it is written from the perspective of a fan, not an equal.

I've heard a shitload of Rollins' stories and, maybe I'm a "dumbass", but I found them interesting. You're dead wrong on this my friend. I know if you read one of his books or listen to one of his CD's you'll still hate it and him. But you are wrong wrong wrong. You're picking on one of the good guys.
